I was thinking this while watching the dark night, is it possible to have from the tip of the mouth to the end of the cheek a large cut and have it heal? Or would it just kill you.

I had been a moker my whole life. Of course this would gradually become evident on my teeth over the years. There werent much noticeable improvements the first 7 days or so, but after 2 weeks, my god, my teeth were significantly whiter. I actually like looking at myself in pictures. Next item on my list is, I am gonna have to find out what I can do about this hideous turkey neck :)

Teeth are naturally whitish to begin with.
Any coloration is a stain in your enamel, so not, it's not permanent. The whitening process won't prevent you from doing things like eating blueberry pie or drinking coffee.

You should only do it if you need it for a specific one time important event, like a wedding, or unless you're rich enough to throw money away.

Does everyone grit their teeth as they sleep?

So, I found i had a bumb in the back of my mouth and i let it go down some for about a week and it did go down a little but just recently it popped and there was white stuff that came out and it was kinda hard and spit it out
But the bumb hasn't fully went away and I have no idea what it is.

Around 2 weeks back I went for a tooth extraction, i had only taken penicillin for 4 days, then went to get the extraction done, it was supposed to be a one week antibiotic course of penicillin, amoxicillin or ampicillin. But I only did 4 days and really didnt take them as suggested (time-wise). So I went for the tooth extraction, he injected me to numb me, about 10 min passed by. Still no numbness even the dentist was worried, he injected again and again around 3 o 4 times in different areas, but it would not get numb due to the unsuccessfully beaten infection. So I went to the dentist to get aroudn 4 or 5 oral shots for no reason, all those shots and I only felt slightly numb whenever the dentist would touch my tooth with his tools it would hurt like hell. So 2 weeks later, today I went to the dentist and he told me that he couldnt do anything to my teeth because I could not open my mouth wide enough due to the inflammation and injury of the past injections. Little by little the pain is going away when I open my mouth as wide as I can. But the doctor told me to take muscle relaxants for 1 week to get my jaw fixed and be able to open my mouth all the way to proceed with the tooth extraction.

what medications or methods would work for healing inflamed and painful injection sites.

my dentist prescribed me
naproxen
or robaxen (because naproxen causes my stomach to ache so bad)

is this necesarry, do you think the inflamed site will heal naturally in the week I got left to recover so I can get my 2 teeth extracted . or should I take one of those medications prescribed?

its been 2 weeks and i still have pain when i try to open my mouth all the way, my appointment is on saturday and i need to be able to open my mouth at least a little wider, what medicine would help with that?

I can not wear rubber bands in my mouth cuz of an allergy and he keeps saying he is going to do something but he wont tell me what. Today i went to him and he power chained my top and bottom teeth. He wants me back in 2 weeks instead of a month like normal. I have no clue what he could be doing. I need to have my over bite fixed and thats why i have braces also.

Sometimes when i wake up in the middle of the night, I get wierd saliva and I have to get up and brush them ..then my breath feels fresh so im okay and ready to go to sleep.. : )

Like if you are on the Pre-dental track, what types of classes do you take?

is taking chemistry and calculus a requirement?? I am aweful at chemistry, and anytype of math, so is it possible to take easy math courses in this case, and easy chem courses? I mean honestly, do you REALLY need to take 3 organic chemistry classes just to become a dentist, all you look at is teeth.
and is it like pre mad, where you can major in anything, as long as you are taking your predental courses? If so, then could i major in political science, and still do pre dental?

I also have braces, so when my braces rub against the sore it is so painful. :(

ive had my braces for a year and 1/2 and my teeth arent so white is there anyway i can prvenmt the cavities better then just brushing twice a day and using mouthwash b4 bed?

I noticed my bottom right wisdom tooth was growing. After first I didn't feel any pain at all, just a few ear pains here and there but nothing serious. The wisdom tooth gradually started to hurt but at first it felt better if I chewed my food on the right side to make the pain subside. However later on the pain got worse and I have to chew on my left side slowly so that my upper teeth won't hit the swollen bottom right gum where my wisdom tooth is. Now I'm having trouble swallowing, only on the right side. I feel pain on my tonsil area but I removed both of them. The pain was the exact feeling when I swallow when I was recovering from tonsillectomy. Now I'm not even able to chew on the left side because I think the swelling got worse. Plus, I feel pain when I swallow. The only thing that helps is opening my mouth so that nothing is touching the swollen wisdom tooth, but since my mouth is open, my saliva builds up forcing me to swallow. Even when I don't swallow, I feel a little discomfort around my right tonsil area.

So about 2 weeks and a couple days ago my mom called my orthodontist to make an apoinment. I'm in the process of getting braces I have already don't the molding with nasty paste stuff. But the next appointment we were suppose to discuss the price and my options, but my orthodontist said I don't have to come in and he can just send it through the Mail. But does it really take this long? Should I get my mom to call again or wait....

I had to have three teeth removed with surgery or considered impacted over a week ago. The two teeth with stitches in them healed great, but when i drink something cold, i want to jump out of my skin. The pain feels like having a moment of dry socket. I can use a straw or drink warm stuff, but i like my cold ice tea when its warm out. I am going to have a few more pulled or surgically removed in a few weeks on the other side. my dentist says that the pain shouldn't be there, checked for infection and sent me home with no medications. he said a few more days it should be better. has anyone experienced this before? i went back to using a straw and warmer tea, but its going to be hot and warm tea is to me is yucky when its warm outside.

i have been sick for a while, so obviously the germs are on my retainer, and i just want to know how to kill the germs on the retainer. can i use a dishwasher?

hi! ive had my braces on for 2 months, today I went in for my eight week check up. I have damon braces and my bottom teeth have moved so much that my orthodontist decided I was ready for a rectangular wire already on my bottom and top... i've read up on them and apparently you get them in the latter stages of your treatment or something? so why am i getting it now? thanks!

There is a hard sorta sharp lump on the left side of my mouth. It is very sore.

I have done a little bit of research but haven't found anything that explains what is going on. Its behind all my teeth which rules out an abscess.

I had my wisdom teeth removed 2 years ago and had some bone slivers come through my gums, but nothing like this.

It split in half and I was wondering if I could super glue it back together? Because there is no way my parents are going to pay to buy a new one. Because they are so expensive. I have to wear my Retainer or my teeth will move!!

I just got my brackets nd spacers (imma get the wires next week) on Monday nd they hurt like hell!!! It might be different for others but, for me, the pain is unbearable. I just got my wisdom teeth pulled today at 2pm.
The surgery went awesome and I was totally ok and coherent but the time I left the recovery room.
I only had 3 pulled, as I was only born with 3 wisdom teeth.
Its not 10 30 at night at my right side of my face (the side I had 2 pulled on) is still frozen!
How long should that take to wear off? No one told me while I was there, that I remember anyway LOL

I got my wisdom teeth out 6 days ago and the right bottom tooth is still buggin the crap out of me. It will be fine, then suddenly start hurting out of nowhere. It hurts when I eat a lot. Especially when I drink some thing, and worsens if the drink is cold. I've got big tests in school all week so I don't wanna go have something done. Any help or tips would be nice.

All I want to do is work into any othodontist and go "here are my teeth molds, can you please make me a retainer?" I dont want to go back to my original orthodontist because he'll get mad at me because my teeth have change. My retainer is just clear and there are no wires at all. Is this possible? How expensive will it be?

I got braces yesterday. I over-exaggerated the question to make people click on this lol. My braces hurt my teeth badly and I can't eat much. I can't really chew. I know the pain will go away, but are there any easy remedies that will help rid of the pain a little quicker. I love eating lol. Since I can't chew I crush the food with my tongue and let it melt a bit in my mouth. Then I swallow. I would like to chew though so yeah any help? They hurt and I'm dealing with the pain but I'm just wondering any home-remedies that will sooth the pain besides aspirin, tylenol, and motrin. None of those worked. The pain is preventing me from falling asleep at night and it sucks. I understand that braces do pay off in the end when your teeth are perfectly straight but what can I do now to help me?

Not to be crude but... it comes out the other end!

I was brushing my teeth tonight, when I noticed a mushy little bit by my lower left molar. Thinking it was food caught in my teeth, I got some floss and got it out. It didn't hurt, but it started to bleed a little bit, and then I noticed it was actually a piece of my gum that I flossed out! It was only a tiny piece, but it feels weird in my mouth now and is a little sore. What the heck just happened?

For the record, I did not brush my teeth too hard, nor did I floss too hard, as I am gentle with both since my gums are sensitive anyway (they bleed sometimes when I brush my teeth no matter how gentle I am). I don't drink, take drugs, or smoke. I'm not the epitome of health, but I am at a healthy weight and don't eat too much junk food. Tonight I just had some mac-n-cheese, corn, and a piece of pie for dinner. I have never had any problems in the past when I've visited the dentist (and I saw her just a couple weeks ago and everything was fine). Why did a small chunk of my gum fall off? It's got me freaked.

I just got 4 extractions (braces extractions) and it's been an hour and a half. It won't stop bleeding and I'm running out of gauze. I don't want to swallow the blood because I just hate the taste of it. What can I do to stop the bleeding?

It was over the holiday weekend. The gum looked like it had a marble beneath it for months. Dr didn't seem concerned. His other molar came in no problem. Then the gum just started to peel off in a huge chunk over the weekend. Finally on Sunday night, it fell off and now there's a huge hole, but you can see and feel the molar coming through. No infection, no puss, he was actually not as cranky as you would imagine.
Was this an impacted molar? No one I've told says they've ever heard of the gum swelling for three months and then just falling off, allowing the molar to come in.
We don't have dental insurance yet. I will see his Dr in a week.

im getting my wisdom teeth out in about two months and i know ill have to take my tongue ring out for the procedure but can i put it back in afterwards? if so how long after? ive had it for a lil over 3 yrs. its my favorite pirceing and i dont wanna have to go thru the healing again.

Every time I wake up from the night or a nap, the gum in the front of my back teeth is big with blood, that usually gets released when I brush my teeth. In other words, almost every morning I bleed in between my front teeth. It's really irritating and I'm wondering why it does this. Ps, I got braces a year and a bit ago, and before I got braces this didn't happen. My two front teeth were apart and when they got pushed together it began happening.

It's basically two rubber bands that zigzag through your brackets. But I don't know how to replace them the orthodontist did it first but I can't remember how to put them back on could you show me with like a link to a video or something

So I went to the dentist today and I found out I'm getting braces. (YAY!) Before that though, I have to go to an oral surgeon and get 3 teeth pulled because I have 2 teeth that have grown over my baby teeth. They said they're gonna put me under. So, my question is, can someone tell me how this will go, how much it will hurt afterwards and recovery time, and anything else. Thanks! :)

I didn't wear my retainer for about a week and got very small gaps that you can't see, but you can like breathe air through them. I've been wearing my retainer constantly but it's not re-closing the gaps. If I go and get my retainer tightened by my Orthodontist, will that fix the gaps?

so im 13 in 1st year.My two front teeth are fine but then the next tooth on the right goes in and back behind my front teeth,it is quite sharp and pointy.some of my other teeth grow wrong ways but not very noticeably , also i have all of my back teeth

a dentist wanted to pull them last yr, but her ped dr said no they were fine, now she's 2yrs8mos and there's hardly any tooth left, both top 2 front are kinda yellowish brown and it looks like little red circles in the centers of them, her gums are heathy looking but these teeth i'm now concerned .

I got my braces taken off about 2 years ago, and I am still wearing my retainer every night. It still fits, and currently my two wisdom teeth are starting to come in (I'm 16 btw). I already called my dentist, and he said that if my wisdom teeth are coming in straight, which they're, it shouldn't have to be extracted.
My main concern is, will I have to pay for a new retainer, or will they just adjust it (how would they go about doing that)? I already paid for a new one two years ago, b/c I lost it, but does that mean I have to pay for a new on, or will insurance cover it?

Hi, so I've had braces for nearly 5 months now,

and I just got power chains at my appointment.

It is wrapped around ALL my teeth for bottom and top, except the teeth at the VERY back,
so I was wondering, which direction are my teeth being pulled towards?

Hi! I have had braces for a month now. I recently had salad for dinner. I ate a few too many croutons. I didn't realize the wire loosened off the molar band! It slid off the thing on the molar band it was connected to. It is still attached to the molar band, but the wire came off a little and formed a semi-circle. The wire now kind of looks like if you took a strip of paper and held each end with each hand and brought the ends a little closer, and the wire curved. Please help!!! Here's an illustration.

Ive dipped bout 3 times, longest lip was prolly 10 minutes and aftrr every lip I rinsed mouth out with water. But with in the last week a space grew between teeth and a pretty bad throbing ache is coming from the gum, the space wasnt there prior to dipping, but I cant be sure dipping caused it since ive only did it 3 times for a very short period. I see some black in the gum when I attempt to look at it in the mirror but again not sure. Could use help, and yes ive already stopped dipping was never addicted.

I have this bad habit of picking at my gums. its only on the right side of my mouth. i pick at them with my finger nails. sometimes with just my finger i push at my gums. it feels so good. if i floss afterword i have to pick t them. if i dont the weird feeling comes and i have to grind my teeth and bite down hard and eventually i start to pick at them. it doesnt hurt to me but to others it might because i use my naik and poke really hard. i never made them bleed but its annoying but i cant stop. it feels good! i dont even notice me doing it. is it that theres something wrong with my gums? they look pretty normal to me. should i go to a dentist? i havent gone in a year. this just started last year.

Just drink as you normally would, but NOT through a straw for at least 2 days...the suction could dislodge the blood clot over your ext site, which acts like a band aid as it heals.

You can purchase some ointments to help things along but usually the sores should disappear in 1-2 weeks. If it's not gone by then definitely pay a visit to your doctor or dentist.

help feel throbs sometime in my gum

Hey (: I'm getting braces in less than a month, and my family doesn't have insurance, so we have to pay ourselves. My friend also told me (she has braces at the moment) that every 3 months we have to clean out teeth. It's not much of a problem to pay, but, the braces are already $3,000 and (if) i have to keep paying for the tightening and the cleaning, i don't want my parents to lose all the money they worked hard for. I tried that, but my gag reflex is very sensitive, so it didn't work. Then I tried to rinse and gargle with water to get them loose and that didn't help either.

They do sometimes fall out by them self and I spit them out. So my question is - Is it okay just to leave them alone and let them fall out by them self?

Theycleaned my teeth, and gave me some mouth rinse. It stopped for a while, but it started back. I think especially when i got the drill. But some how my gum or teeth is dry. And cold water or too hot foods make my gum sensitive. I think the rinse is drying my gums out. I need help please!

i dont drink much or often, but i drank yesterday and it made me feel the best i ever have in a long time (physcially and mentally) and even seemed to completely kill the pain my wisdom teeth are causing me (which more than a dozen aleve - 3 at a time spaced apart by a few hours and 800 mg ibuprofen every few hours couldnt seem to do) which seems to be increasing every day and i cant afford to get them removed and havent seen a dentist in a year

1. Go see your dentist or doctor.
2. Take some Ibuprofen i.e. Advil for pain. Tylenol will likely not do much you'd want to take some sort of NSAID for toothaches.

Anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. It doesn't hurt at all to get them, all you feel is them touching your teeth every once in a while.

what can i do if anything @ home to smooth out the small chip ? any suggestions without having to spend a fortune...

For the past five years i feel pain whenever i eat cold or sweet food. It's getting really annoying. Is there a way of stopping the pain? I don't care if my teeth fall out but i'm terrified of the dentist and would prefer a home remedy

Tooth retention is the teeth that you have left in your mouth. It is the opposite of tooth loss. It is a statement. Ex:

I do that too. Its bruxism. Its something I've done for years but I do know when I'm stressed its worse. Your dentist can help you with this especially with telling you what mouth guard to use. Grinding can cause damage to teeth so mouth guard would be best to get.

I went to the dentist recently and my dentist said that he's suspecting tooth decay on my top right molar. I think he's right cause it's painful when I eat anything sweet, and the tooth has some sensitivity. I wanted to know if there was any way to prevent further decay, because I already need to have 4 teeth knocked out due to getting braces. 3 out of the 4 teeth are being removed because they have fillings, and I'm pretty sure that they'll consider taking this one out too if it requires a filling as well. Also - I don't know if this of any importance - but I'm 15 years old.
I guess I'm the type of person who, no matter how many times I brush my teeth, use mouthwash, occasionally floss (should be working on that) and just generally take care of them, I'll still get cavities. >_>
Please let me know if there's anything I can do, regardless of how minimal the effects may be.

I'm so bad I have a swollen gum around my back molar and it isn't going away! Like ive had it for about 2 weeks now and im terrified ! Im also getting my cavity filled next week and i was wondering if that would effect my cavity. ( the gums that swollen is not the one that im getting the filling in )

I'm 23. I don't have the money on my own to pay for them, but my parents don't seem to think I need them (nor do they want to pay for them). I'm not happy with the way I look, solely because of my teeth. I feel like it's affected my social life and completely eroded any confidence I have in myself. 1: If I was to go to my local doctor would he be able to diagnose me with this disease? Or does it have to be a dentist?

2: Is periodontal disease curable if caught early? Is there a way to make it go away completely?

I went to my dentist yesterday and after an x-ray, it showed that there is a tooth growing literally sideways under my last baby tooth. They are considering removing the baby tooth and do soemthing to straighten the adult tooth. My dentist said an orthodontist would phone if they thought the procedure was necessary. If i do have it done, will I have to have braces??

I have a solid lump, rounded edges, about size of a gobstopper, way at the very top my upper gum (almost adjacent to my nostril It is so far up, that my own dentist and myself were not aware of it . It came to light when i attended an orthodontist and had an x ray for braces. Now that the location has been pointed out to me, i can feel it with my fingers. Despite the x ray being taken over year and half ago, it's only now that my orthdontist has revisited the old x ray and discovered that he "missed it" first time round. Shows up white on the x ray and is not painful

Doesn't appear to be connected to my brace treatment and the probability is that i have had it for a long time, as my own dentist has said he uses different type of x ray from the orthodontist and it does not show on his x rays.

Clinic that i was referred to do not know what it is and I am currently awaiting an appointment to go into dental hospital to have examination, but just wondered if anyone had similar

So this is i think the 5th time this has happened, maybe 6th. And I think it gets worse everytime but they happen every 5 or 6 months so i dont really remember the last one.Basically it starts with my tongue feeling weird. i play around with it to find out the cause and find one tiny annoying white bump on the tip. After a few days, this bump gets bigger, and mroe spring up. By about 3 or 4 days after onset, EVERY SINGLE pappilae on the tip of my tongue (the upper surface and upper sides) is inflamed and red . Some (the most painful) are white. usually about 9 to 10 white ones and too many inflamed to count. The whole tip feels like, swollen and hevay, sort of numb and has that 'burned' feeling. I'm sick of it coming back again and again cause it makes me nervous scared and in EXCRUCIATING pain. last time this happened the doc said it may have been vitamin B defiancy or something but idk D: PLEASE help this is driving me INSANE and really scaring me.

I have had 4 teeth out, 2 being my second molars, could this be why?

Will your orthodontist take your braces off if your teeth aren't necessarily perfect? And can everyone who has braces get perfect teeth? (i'm supposed to be getting my braces off tomorrow and i'm worried they won't take them off!)

I guess I should have been more specific. What I mean is can anyone who gets braces have perfect teeth? My bottom teeth are completely straight, and my top is too except the two teeth that are on the outside of my two front teeth. (my front teeth are in between them if that makes it clearer) Everything else is straight but they go kind of inward and slant a bit. i'm not sure if the orthodontist just can't correct it or if I will have to extend my treatment until it is corrected.


My ortho also gave me triangle rubber bands. Will they bring those two teeth back and straighten them up, or is this just how my teeth are?

I have a 'fang' because my canine is raised. The tooth next to that is crooked but other than those two my teeth are straight. I've had braces for ages and I don't think there helping... Any alteratives to braces?

Okay, so, I just got 3 fillings done all on the bottom. It was 19,21,28. Tooth 21 has been hurting so bad when I bite down. It feels like someone is driving a metal poker into my tooth or something. It makes me wanna jump off my chair. I called the dentist and they can't fit me in for another week. She mentioned something about they 'overfilled the cavity'. What does this mean? And how can I relieve the pain that comes from putting pressure on the biting surface of the tooth?

I have to get them and Ive heard that you talk funny, with a lisp, while theyre in. Is this true? I just got a job as a counter person at a fast food joint and I dont want to sound retarted while asking people what they want to eat. Any information? I haven't thought to mention this to my dentist, but after reading possible complications of impacted wisdom teeth, I think I may now need one removed. For the past 6 months or so, off and on, the gum right under the impacted wisdom tooth gets sore. That lasts a few days at a time. I'm 34 so def past the normal age of when wisdom teeth come in. But i'm worried how much it would cost to have removed. Can someone please tell me, thanks.

I chew on everything! marker lids,fingers,bracelets,shirt,straws,wate… bottle caps,and pencils. I will chew and chew until the cap is competely flat or i will chew on a bracet until the printing is faded. I am chewing on a braclet as we speak. What should I do...(IM not a big fan of gum :/)

I have had novacaine before but today i stopped my dentist from giving me a third shot because i felt strange. My tongue felt heavier and my mouth abnormally numb. I felt like i was choking. I left without get a filling. i feel embarrassed but i knew something was wrong. This is the first time i have ever had this reaction to novacain.

For me, It took about 3 weeks for the pain to go completely. And then, the same pain started all over when they tightened them in the fourth week. But after you've had them tightened a few times, you get used to it and don't even notice them.
If they are hurting the insides of your mouth, you can ask for some putty to stick on the metal and it stops chaffing and helps with the pain.

Remember no pain, no gain. So hang in there.

I am 12 years old, almost 13 and one month ago I've extracted my last baby tooth. My dentist said that she has to take it out urgent because of the permanent tooth that has to grow. But, I am very worried because, until now nothing has grown.

I've been experiencing this since Sunday, granted I do not take super care of my teeth, I do regularly floss, brush. Anyways, I cannot tell which it is, but it's involving my front bottom two teeth, it's not exactly 'pain', but it's sure from pleasant. In the morning it's non existent, so I'm always under the illusion it left, then in a hour or two time it's back. It only seems to be uncomfortable when I open my mouth for deep breaths, or if I do a lot of talking. Eating, drinking, does seem to affect it. I'm sure this is the sort of thing I'd check with a dentist with, but with money as tight as it is these days, I hope it's something that wont require such.

I got a letter sent through: 1st bonding on 24th of June, 2nd bonding in august (forgot the date)
what does bonding mean? is the first when they apply braces to your top teeth then the 2nd is applying braces to your bottom teeth?
I really want to know because if it is this then I will cancel my appointment and make them on the same day as I don't want to walk around during summer with only top braces.

Lately, it seems like even after I just brushed my teeth, my breath just always smells bad. I can tell it's affecting my social life because I'm afraid to look at some one in the face because I'm afraid my breath is extremely bad. I have crooked teeth due to lack of space in my mouth. If I get my wisdom teeth removed will my teeth fix themselves into place so they are no longer crooked? I had enough space in my mouth before the wisdom teeth started to form.

I had 2 root canals because my teeth cracked; & i had both with the white caps on them.
one was fine, but the other one's cap came off, & now the tooth cracked all the way and there is NOTHING there, what so ever..
I am SO much pain, so my parents are bringing me to the dentist tommorow. I took Advil and it works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't work.
But right now i'm in SO much pain and its i think infected, but i cant even smile or even open my mouth with out the pain rushing thru my mouth..

I've had my braces on for almost 9 months and I just went to the ortho yesterday and they told me I needed to wear four rubber bands. Two on each side of my mouth. They hurt my teeth so badly. I can't even eat but I want to so bad. We have nothing soft in the house. I took advil 2 hours ago and it's not helping. Not only do my teeth kill, my jaw does too since I have tmj. Is there anything I can do to ease the pain?

And all I have left is my upper vampire teeth,they are huge and very very solid in my gums right now,will it hurt to take them out when it's time?Please answers my two questions,thank you!

I'm currently a student of Dental Assisting, and I plan on working at an oral surgeon's office once I graduate. But I have been thinking about furthering my education after that to become a hygienist. I was wondering if hygienists can work at oral surgeon's offices, are there positions available there for them? If not, then I won't pursue it. Thank you!

My mother saw a dentist who performed a root canal. After the root canal my mother had severe pain. After a post op check up the dentist said my mother had a canker sore and prescribed antibiotics. On a return visit after antibiotics were complete, the dentist realized that said canker sore was actually exposed bone. Due to the antibiotics my mother also had stomach problems and got a yeast infection.

The dentist then referred my mother to a specialist who performed a second root canal on a different tooth. She is still experiencing pain and the issues have not been resolved.

Would this be grounds for a dental malpractice lawsuit?

Yesterday I got metal spacers put in and they've hurt terribly! Eating is a bit hard and my teeth are sensitive, but this I was told this is to be expected. I'm wondering though, what are these spacers for? I read they're put in before braces, but I already have braces in. Are they for putting braces on the molars? And does this mean it's almost time to get my braces off? Please help! :)

I am 25yo, and I have recently been visiting the dentist after 7 years of avoidance, the dentist has extracted 7 teeth. The wisdom teeth don't bother me but they have also taken out both lower first molars and an upper 1st bicuspid (the one next you your fang like pointy tooth)

I have been finding it hard to eat most things since the extractions and both first molar sockets hurt during eating, I am with a nhs dentist, but they never discussed any options with regards missing teeth.

Does anyone have any idea of what is my best course of action?

What is happening to my tooth? It seemed to have shifted about a millimeter and is very sore when I touch it. I cannot chew anything and I can only brush my bottom teeth and my top molars. I remember hearing and reading in multiple places that regular cool mint ISN'T supposed to make your teeth whiter. Apparently a lot of people start using listerine hoping that it'll make their teeth whiter and they get disappointed to find out that it doesn't.

Five years ago the dentist prenscribed a rigid mouth guard because of my bruxism problem. I never wore was uncomfortable and I couldn't sleep with it. Recently I went to the dentist for a check up and he's prescribing the mouth guard again costing me a fortune and probably wil end up on my bedside table again. I've heard that there is a more comfortable mouth guard in the market but they don't sell it in my country but you can buy it over the internet but I don't know the name of it, I would like to mention it to my dentist. So I had a rotten tooth that went dead and needed to get pulled out, so the dentist did his job without a problem, but before the process I think I swollowed a little of the stuff he kept putting in my gum (am not sure what its called) so I wanted to spit but the assistant said to hang on and put a sucking tube and sucked everything out. After the process he prescribed Ibu and vicodin but a day later something started to hurt my stomach and my stool is all black.
its been a few days now and my stomach is still in pain but I am noticing the stool isnt as black, what could cause this?

My girlfriend a few weeks ago broke her fake tooth causing her to get a replacement. With replacements she had to get a mold taken and have a temporary put in place while the tooth is being made. About a week ago the temporary tooth came loose and had to be refit, ever since then she has suffered from severe tooth pain. i have my first wisdom tooth coming in on my bottom jaw. It didn't come all the way through so my gum is covering part of it. Recently it's been swelling and Im unable to open my mouth no more than 1 1/2 fingers wide..I know i can stretch my mouth to drop down but hurts alot (it's like stretching a rubber band). So a few months ago i went in to my dentist to get some teeth filled, after he was done i remember him telling me something along the lines of ,"this tooth was drilled really close to the nerve" Then asking me if it felt okay, I replied "it feels fine". It didn't hurt at the time, now this tooth is giving me hell. I am in agony, pain is shooting up my face. So I am a male of 22 - and i have had all 3 of my wisdom teeth come in over the past few years, all with no problems! Now that the 4th and final one is coming in - i seem to be having some problems!

My son just had his first permanent molar cavity filled. It was a big cavity on a bottom molar so the dentist did a silver filling which covers most of the chewing surface. Since it's big, the dentist offered to polish it in a week so it would not look as bad. However, my son refuses to have it polished, since the silver will be visible either way, so he doesn't want to spend more time at the dentist fo no reason, so he's willing to let his filling get dark. Should I listen to him, and let him skip the polishing, since he did at least get the cavity filled?

Ok I'm trying to get my back two molars taken out but I don't have insurance .. and since this is going to be my first visit to the dentist in a long time they said x rays and check up will cost 78 bucks but that's the thing I'm tight on money is there anywere were you can just pay to get your tooth that's bothering you removed without going trough the whole x ray thing .. also I don't want to be put to sleep so how much would laughing gas cost?

My right lower wisdom tooth has been coming in for awhile now. It's about halfway grown in but, for the past week or so, i've been experiencing near-constant pain in that area. The tooth is growing in straight, but the back quarter of it is still covered with gums and it looks like there's not enough room for it to break through? It's very painful nearly all of the time and now I am experiencing occasional ear-ache. It hurts to smile or open my mouth too wide and brushing my teeth in that area is extremely painful as well. I'm wondering if this is normal for a wisdom tooth or if there may be something wrong that I should see a dentist for. Two of my other wisdom teeth came in with no problems. Ok so I got braces yesterday(I'm 13) and after I got them on they didn't hurt. Yesterday night my teeth were killing me so bad that I couldn't go to sleep until 1am. And now I woke up with a really bad pain in my mouth. And I cannot return to sleep! What should I do! I was literally crying. im planning on getting ceramic braces is there like a time extension that comes along with them compared with regular metal braces? if there is how much time difference? and other pros and cons?

Now the dentist told us he can eat like 2 hours after and drink right away, but she said he can never eat gummy candies or skittles or anything that will stick to your teeth, now is that true he has to wait till he is 11 years old for that tooth to fall out or can he eat that candy within a month or more? I am hiding the candy from him, and it is very hard!

That and she provided no Scientific source for her claim or a kind of mouthwash to use... Even if her statement was true you could always use fluoride in conjunction with Listerine. If your really concerned with alcohol in mouthwash -- there are other types of Listerine approved by the ADA that don't contain alcohol in them.

Okay~ so after u rinse ur mouth with mouthwash for a minute~ and after u spit it out..do u rinse ur mouth with water or just leave it alone?

if you get it the day before, it will hurt like hell and your face may be swollen on your birthday and you wont be able to eat much .

I don't see why you would have to wait. I'm sure you could do it whenever you feel up to it, considering your not in pain. But I don't think you'll be able to give oral sex.

The first time I got my archwire put on my braces there was one black little center mark on it... I was able to scrape it off with my fingernail. This time there are 3 black marks, and I've been trying to get rid of them for the past 2 days but they're still visible.

Ive been smoking on weekends for the past 3 months.

I disapprove of smoking. But the past 3 months, ive been partying too hard, i get drunk and i guess smoking kinda happens while drinking. Im 19, im legal to drink and smoke. But ive always been against smoking cause i see ppl who do smoke, and they all seem to be kinda sketchy. My uncle was a heavy smoker, and my mom always disliked him. His gums were black, his breath smelled gross, he had nasty greasy hair.

Now im afraid that just from weekends in three months, my gums and teeth can be affected!!!!

It's not scary at all! You just go and they see how long you have before you can get your braces on. It's no biggie and usually only lasts like 5-10 minutes. And getting the braces on isnt so bad either, i was terrified to go to both and it wasnt bad at all! You'll be fine (: have fun!

It completely depends on you and your orthodontist. I remember at mine, they took pictures with a regular camera. Then I bit on a little thing and a machine went around my head. It took and X-ray of my mouth. Depending on you..the ortho may take an mold of your mouth. They may put rubber bands around your teeth to make room for the brackets that come later. Trust me, there is nothing to fear. P.S. putting the braces on is painless. Its super quick and easy. For me, my braces don't hurt at all and I actually kind of like them.

I had a loose baby tooth(first molar) and i was eating candy and it pulled out on an angle and i heard a crunch. I later discovered the tooth broke off of a piece that is still firm. What should I do?

Ok so i have this molar that isn't loose but the new tooth already pooped up and my old tooth is literally on the side of my gums. It doesn't hurt until I move it but i need to get rid of this very fast because i have a dentist appointment tuesday and if i still have it then they will pull it and I and DEEPLY afraid of needles and the last time they pulled one of my teeth.. well they didn't even numb it and it was extremely painful!! I got a filling, in the second tooth from the back, at the top, on the left hand side. My dentist said it was very deep filling, so expect some sensivity and take pain killers as I need them.

But I've been getting really bad achey toothache. Almost like a pounding/pulsing feeling. Also when I drink cool drinks, I could cry with the pain. I've been trying bonjela but it doesn't really work. I take pain killers but after a while they wear off and it hurts even more than before.

And what's even worse, because my dentist isn't a private dentist, there's a month waiting list, so I can't go back and see my dentist tomorrow.
The pain is manageable to an extent. It's keeping me awake right now, but I've felt worse pain.

So has anyone got any tips ... or sympathy? Haha!

I had my wisdom teeth taken out about 6 days ago. Originally I was supposed to have only the two bottom teeth out, but by pure mistake, my oral surgeon took out all four. I was put on vicodin and penicillin. My face swelled up like a balloon. My cheeks were enormous, and the swelling only started to go down yesterday. I iced my face but it didn't help much. It got worse each day until about three days ago, then it stayed the same until yesterday and now the swelling is going down. I have two giant bruises on my jaw on both sides of my face. I know these are normal side effects.

But, I was supposed to be rinsing my mouth out with a prescribed mouth wash three times a day starting right after the surgery, which my lovely parents forgot to give me until day three. Now I have been rinsing my mouth with it. But I am wondering if I am healing correctly.

I have a foul taste in my mouth and I have very bad breath even though I carefully brush my front teeth and tongue, and the mouth wash is mint flavored. The half of the stitches in both of my two bottom gums have come out, but the other half are stuck in my gums. It's almost if my gums swelled over the stitches. My gums also have these bubbly white areas that are also on my cheeks back there. I cannot chew even with my two front teeth because my back gums are swollen and when I try to fully close my mouth my gums rub together and get irritated. I also can't fully open my mouth. I can only open it about halfway then I feel pain, and then I physically cannot open it anymore. And this is 6 days after the surgery.

This part is hard to explain. There is a part of my gums on both sides on the two bottom teeth where a flap of the gums is loose. In between my cheeks (which swelled inward into my mouth as well) and my gums, a thin piece of my gums is, i guess, loose. It is attached to the bottom of my mouth and the back of my mouth, but i can push it with my tongue to either my cheek or to my gums. I don't know if I should have that.

I am still in a lot of pain. My oral surgeon doesn't make follow up appointments unless you ask them and my mom doesn't want to. So I haven't been able to ask him. In your opinion, does it sound like I'm healing okay, or could there be an infection or anything.

i have a habit of chewing the inside of my cheek and around my lips on the inside of my mouth. is there a way to try to stop the habit. and is ther eanything that will make the inside of my mouth normal like as in getting rid of all the damaged skin. is there something i can gargle that will peel it off or apply something to the damaged areas

I just had a tooth removed yesterday, it was a wisdom tooth on the top. The pain is driving me crazy! I had this done at a clinic, and they don't prescribe pain medication or narcotics for any reason at all. I suspect that is because there are so many drug addicts in this area. But I wish they would make an exception when pulling teeth. Anyhow, I have been taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen, which is helping a little but not much. It has been 24 hours, so I did a warm salt water rinse, that didn't help much either.
I have some Guaifenesin Codeine syrup here, from when I had bronchitis a while back. Will that help any, since it has codeine in it? Isn't that the same ingredient that Vicodin has? I wonder how many mg are in 2 teaspoons full?
I just took 2 tylenol, and and 800 mg Ibuprofen, I wonder if it would be okay to take 3 or 4 teaspoons of the cough syrup?

It has now been 2 more days since I posted, and it still hurts. It's not the extraction site itself that hurts, but all the gums and teeth on that side of my mouth, top and bottom. It hurts the same way as it does when I have a bad cold, because when I get a cold, all my gums feel inflamed.
The codeine syrup didn't seem to help. I'm going to get some clove oil tomorrow and try that.
I have been taking one 800 mg ibuprofen and 2 tylenol every six hours. It helps a little, but my gums feel like I want to jab toothpicks into them.
Is all this pain because it was a wisdom tooth? My mother's boyfriend had 4 teeth pulled the same day, and he was feeling fine that same afternoon, and ever since. I just had this one pulled and it's still driving me nuts, and it's been almost 4 days.

It hurts some, but not enough to be scared of. You won't even need tylenol or anything - it's unpleasant, but bearable. As the braces move your teeth around it can make things sore and sometimes make eating uncomfortable. You might want softer foods.

Have you talked to the orthodontist? He should be able to explain the process to you. For instance, he told me not to eat raw carrots or corn chips because they could knock the brackets off and he'd have to put them on again (which ended up happening a couple times anyway).

I've had braces before.

I've had difficulties with TMJD for several years now, but it barely ever bothers me so I didn't think to mention it to my doctor when I was having my wisdom teeth extracted on Thursday. Now I can barely open my mouth due to my jaw muscles being so tight. I remember when first battling with TMJD I had similar problems where my jaw would stay like this for months on end. Any tips for getting it loosened up? I try doing some light exercises with it, which loosens it up for a little but then once I have it closed for another minute it tightens right back up when I try to open it again. Similarly, If I don't use it at all it just stays stiff.

i think they hurt because i need braces and i ahve a appointment for some but im not sure they are gonna kill me lol!

They will be sore for a couple of day. But I recommend taking about 3 pain pills like a one hour or half a hour before the appointment. So they don't start hurting after the braces are put on. At the end, it will be worth it! You will have a wonderful smile.

Nearly 3 weeks ago I had two wisdom teeth pulled. A few days ago during my voice lesson, I had opened my mouth too wide and felt pain immediately in the extraction area. Since then, the hole where I didn't get stitches in my mouth has been hurting. Is it possible that I could have a dry socket, or could it be that just burst the hole in my mouth?

Also, I'm not bleeding or anything, and I saw the dentist 2 weeks after they were pulled and they said everything looked fine.

Im just curious my ortho told me i have to get a expander in like cupple weeks...then wear it for 6 months..then braces...what do i need to know about the expander...pain more then the spacer bands i have in now?....and most importantly do they take the metal expander out before they put in braces?

I had my braces for a while and when I got them off , they gave me a clear plastic retainer . It hurt when i wore it so I just didn't wear it . & now some teeth have gone crooked. I really don't want to get braces again . So i want to know what the orthodontist will do.

My friend hit me with a badminton racket and now one of my teeth are loose. I'm freaking out because I have had a tooth break before and I'm not about to loos this one. I know that the teeth are held in place in the gums so because it is a permanent to tooth, would the gums tighten up and will it all be ok ( it's only a little loose but I can see it move when I wiggle it with my finger. I am so exited, but the only thing is one of my friends got her braces taken off at the beginning of the school year, and she has little white marks from the brackets she also had her braces on for about twice as long as me. If you do have marks will the orthodontist whiten them?

On my first bottom molar, I had a filling on the biting surface about a year ago. On this tooth there is now a sharp pain when I bite down. And I think I pinpointed that it is happening at the edge of the filling. The pain goes away immediately when I stop biting. And it is only happening with certain foods.

Is the filling going bad? Looking at it there doesnt appear to be anything cracked or broke or anything like that.

You may have crack tooth next to the filling. To clearly see crack line, the dentist need to use intra - oral camera. The small crack line will not show in the x-ray. Ask if your dentist has an intra - oral camera (the receptionist will tell you). If your dentist doesn't have it, call other dentist who has one.

In the meantime, eat soup. Avoid using that side because if it is really cracked, you don't want it to crack more!

The other day during physical education I accidently got hit around the mouth with a tennis racket. But it was at full blast and gave me a nasty bruise. But also an extremely annoying wobbly teeth. i had a tooth pulled recently and went to Orthodontics and they said one of my wisdom teeth is growing in the right position and the could chain it down or something. the tooth i got pulled was right in front of my wisdom teeth. i thought Orthodontics don't let you keep wisdom teeth.

Hey guys, my mom has had a tooth ache for over two days. She tried paracetamol a few times but ain't helping, and also she can't take anymore medicine because she had a recent stomach operation due to too many painkillers (her back was hurt and required painkillers).

Now the pain has come back, and it's so excruciating it got to the point where she started to cry. It is 00:05 am now and obviously the dentist is closed, I was thinking that maybe she should go to A&E (accident and emergency) ? But that takes 4 hours to come and consult her, do you think we should go ?

Also do you know any remedies for the pain?

My mouth has been steadily losing its saliva flow, I have been drinking massive amounts of water to try to offset it.

My lower lip saliva glands are infected and so is one of my wisdom teeth also a blister has formed in my throat on the same side as the infected tooth and my ears feel *stuffy.

I have been on a z-pac for the past 5 days with no improvement. I am going to the dentist tomorrow to get as many wisdom teeth pulled as he will do. I have been having tinnitus and jaw pain since they started coming in years ago.

So to recap is it lack of saliva causing the infected tooth or the infected tooth causing the lack of saliva ?

I'm getting braces in a few days, and at my last appointment, my dental hygienist was telling me:
"It's no big deal, very easy, painless. It's just a longer appointment because I have to glue the brackets on one by one." So does that mean she will put on my braces? She said "I" not "the brackets have to be," I really hope it's her, she's more gentle than my orthodontist. And most of the youtube videos I've seen of people getting braces, it's usually the assistant or hygienist putting them on.
AND, on the paper for my braces appointement it said my name along with my dental hygientist's name, but as for my mom, it said my orthodontist's name.

Today i got the crest 3d whitestrips vivid with the toothpaste. I also have the whiening mouthwash so i was wondering will these products whiten my teeth. i get my braces off in one week and dont plan on using these products till i get them off. oh and my teeth arnt really yellow they just have a yellowish tint.

My smile is very gummy, and my only option to fix this is jaw surgery, which is rather extreme.
As an alternative solution,

I think that you may suffer from a teeth disease called Sterinopos it is about the nerves. Does this happen everyday? Because my sister in law had this exact same problem and she went to her dentist and she was diagnosed with this. No worries though! U only need the right meds! Good Luck!

Overbites really arent that bad! I had one too until i started going to the orthodontist(which costs about a million dollars). I understand if your parents dont want to go through all of that expensive ortho stuff, but not to worry! my mom got braces a few years ago and her teeth shifted. I guess its possible for your teeth to shift, but probably not that much. Unless your head changes shape..

Yes, if you ask they can put you to sleep for wisdom teeth removal. They do have to give you an IV, which means inserting a needle...but it's just a small pinch. :) You're pretty groggy for a little while after you wake up...and the anesthesia can make girls cry (not because of pain....you just...cry). But you don't really act "crazy".

My right nostril is stuffed up, I feel like i have a headache on the right side of my head, my right cheekbone area is aching, the area under my right eye is kind of tender and hurts a little when i push down on it, and my right upper chewing tooth is aching. It makes me want to bite down really hard on something but if I do, it hurts the tooth. I'm also coughing up a lot of mucous from my lungs.

i got my top braces on few weeks ago and im getting my bottom ones on in about 2 weeks...my friend said that bottoms hurts way more than top..? it that true?
oh and you know how before you get the top ones they give you these band thingy that goes in between your teeth so that you would be more comfortable with braces when you ge2t them on? well do they do that with bottom too or do you not need spaces for your bottom teeth?

It depend on your teeth. If your bottom are more crooked than the top, they will need more tightening which will make it hurt more. If your top are more crooked, then those will probably hurt more. For me, it was about the same pain for both the bottom and top. And yes, I had to get those rubber band things for my bottom teeth.

This morning I woke up with a bump at the roof of my mouth, right where my left front tooth is. It doesn't hurt or anything, and there isn't any pus, it's just sorta there. Last night, I was eating candy though - jelly beans and chocolate. Do you think it just got a little irritated? Should I get it checked out?

I got a DWI when I was 20, about 5yrs ago. I really want to become a Dental Hygeinist in Texas.
Would this incident prevent me from getting into Dental Hygeine school or from receiving my licensure after school?

will i stop growing if i work out?
im 14 and im 5 feet 6 inches. if i do things like lift weights and do push ups daily, will i stop growing?

My bracket fell off like a week ago and i haven't been able to get to my dentist to get it fixed. I get my braces tightened on Wednesday. Is it really going to make a difference that I waited so long? Will I have to keep them on longer?

I think you will be fine. Mine did this when my tooth fell out with a bracket on it. It may spread the teeeth apart a little but once you get it back on and tightened it will make up for it, with some pain! Thats okay though, because it goes away soon and at least the result is some great teeth!

I ha d a root canal did a my tooth lst year this morning when i work up my silver cap was loosing my mom said that im go have a big gap and she got me scared. Is that really true or can they put another silver cap on it

I got 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted a week ago. I'm not having too much pain at all, today is the first day I didn't have to take any pain relievers. My stitches have already dissolved and bleeding stopped completely. It does still kind of hurt when I eat, I'm just curious maybe how much longer?

at lease full weeks from day of surgery to be save...I would say its ok to drink from a straw from a can of soda but beware sucking on a milkshake due to the consististy.

I hate my teeth. There really crooked & yellowish. I wish I had parents that took care of me; took me to the dentist and the orthodontist. I don't do anything with my life because of how self conscious I am about my disgusting teeth. I have no friends, no job, I'm not in school. All I do is stay home all day, everyday, wasting my life away. I'm just a pathetic loser.. I don't want to live like this!

What can I do?

I want braces, I just have no way of paying for them. I'm too self conscious and depressed to get a job.

I got that fluoride treatment you get as a baby but my mom wasn't exact with it now I've had blotchy spots on my teeth ever since even though I ahve my adult teeth. The main problem is my two front teeth. I hate my teeth, they aren't straight enough but I figure if i can't get braces then at least whiten them i guess. If I used one of those at home whitening kits like from crest or rembrandt would they work or make my teeth more blotchy? Any suggestions? A trip to the dentist isn't an option now.

I know I have an overbite. My top teeth cover most of my bottom teeth.but, I can stick the very tip of my finger in-between the two rows when I close my teeth. Is that just a mild overjet? Also, will braces fix it? And if so how long because thank god that option is available. And please leave me your email if your a dentist or orthadontist incase I need some advice please.

An overbite is the overlap of the top front teeth over the bottom front teeth and is a vertical discrepancy so you correctly described an overbite. An overjet is the horizontal discrepancy between the front edges of the upper front teeth and the lower front teeth so it is a front to back issue. A normal overbite and overjet is 0.5-1.5 mm. Since most of your bottom teeth are covered by the top teeth when they are together you have a deep overbite. There are basically two main types of orthodontic treatment options available - traditional orthodontic treatment and functional orthodontic treatment. Since you have a deep overbite, as this is eliminated, the mandible will move posteriorly making the overjet worse (this is normal). So after the overbite is fixed, you will have a Class II jaw relationship (aka retruded chin). A normal jaw relationship is called a Class I (Roman numeral one) and means the skeletal structures of the head are lined up so that your profile is straight when viewed from the side. A Class II (Roman numeral 2) means that the facial profile shows a mandible (lower jaw) that is set back relative to the upper jaw when viewed from the side. With this in mind here is how treatment will generally be done by the two orthodontic techniques:

Traditional orthodontists often do not address overbite issues for whatever reason and they do not know how to correct overjet issues skeletally so they do so dentally. Here's how it is usually done:
Perfectly good bicuspids (aka premolars) will be extracted and the front teeth will be retracted (pulled back). This will provide instant room to straighten crooked teeth and decrease the overjet. However, the disadvantages of this technique are it will make the mouth smaller than normal, make the upper back teeth not line up properly with the lower back teeth, make the nose and chin more prominent and the mouth area sunken in (aka dished-in profile), make the lower jaw bite too far back, and have been shown to cause TMJ problems, especially in females. This is nothing more than camouflaging a skeletal problem and leaving it untreated by just moving teeth around to make the original problem less obvious. Treatment time would be about 18 months to 2 years.

With the functional orthodontic technique the overbite will be eliminated by erupting the back teeth using braces and the Class II jaw relationship will be corrected by using a functional appliance that will translate or move the mandible to its proper position so that you will go from a Class II profile to a Class I profile. The advantages are no extractions that will adversely affect the facial profile, protection of the TM joints, elimination of the deep overbite, and a skeletal correction of the retruded mandible (as opposed to a dental "correction"). Treatment time would be about 2 years or slightly longer.

I am a 20 year old girl. I usually have no major problems to score guys. I've often been told that I have a really good body, nice hair and beautiful skin, which I can see. Unfortunately I have very crooked teeth. The two teeth besides my front teeth are very rotated and sticking out like little fangs, and my canines are sitting far up in the gums and are very sharp and look like fangs.

I am very sorry for my teeth. However I am a smiling girls, so you can almost always see my crooked teeth.

My question to you is how much means crooked teeth for you? Can crooked teeth destroy the whole look of a girl? (especially if they are very crooked as mine?)
My ex-boyfriend liked to touch my crooked teeth while we had sex, etc. Did he think they were sexy? and do you think that too?
