Home >All Categories > Health >Dental >Open Questionandy miller andy miller Member since:December 07, 2008Total points:334 (Level 2)Now I have dipped for a while, but not as much as recently. Just recently I've gone through a couple of cans of Grizzly Wintergreen Pouches. At first it was fine, but then my lip started getting tender and sore and it appeared to be getting white cankor sores. Then some of it started peeling off into a sort of white skin, almost resembling Leukoplakia, but I haven't been dipping long enough for that to happen. I actually split those two cans with a buddy. Yesterday, I got a can of Copenhagen Wintergreen Long Cut and it had about the same effect. It seems like the Wintergreen flavor irritates it the most. Open Question: I lost my top retainer. What do I do?!?

Home >All Categories > Health >Dental >Open QuestionMario Mario Mario Mario Member since:May 05, 2011Total points:81 (Level 1)I recently went to the mall with friends today, and when we went to eat, I took out both my top and bottom retainers and stuffed it in my pocket. But when I came home just now and felt the inside of my pocket, only the bottom retainer was there! I don't know if they have a lost and found for the entire mall, but I tried calling the mall but NO ONE picks up! I tried going back to my Orthodontist (University of Toronto) and they said that my session with her is done and I'd have to go to another Dentist to get another one. What do I do now, I dont want my teeth to move!! Its been atleast a month now! Please help! D:Answer Question

F by F Member since:June 05, 2009Total points:242 (Level 1)Try going to the mall and looking for it, and try looking in your car to see if it fell out of your pocket. The most likely places where you lost it are where you sat down and it could have dropped out there.
Also, I'd try calling your orthodontist again. If you lost one of your retainers, they're supposed to make another one for you even if you have to pay for it again. The orthodontist should have understood the situation....or how long have you been using the retainers? If it's been for like 5 years or so, then the retainers shouldn't be that necessary anymore. I'd still keep the bottom retainers on though.

Home >All Categories > Health >Dental >Open QuestionMichael Michael Member since:July 21, 2009Total points:309 (Level 2)I'm 14. About a year ago I had my two canine teeth pulled, because I had lost all my teeth a while before that, but the canines weren't coming out and my two adult canine teeth were fully grown above it. One has grown in too high up, but it is grown out and i have a normal tooth, and I'm getting a bracket on my braces to pull it down (should be very quick and easy). If it makes a difference i have an underbite that isn't very bad thats being fixed with the braces and rubber bands. And I have springs on my braces to widen the area that the tooth needs to come down. Now, its been a year, and i can almost see the white of the tooth in my gum, but if i put my tounge under the canine area of my gum, I cant feel anything. So will it eventually come down out of my gum!? How can I make it come out!?Answer Question

Soccerlover by Soccerlo... Member since:August 15, 2007Total points:660 (Level 2)No, as long as it doesn't hurt you should be fine. I got mine out 20 days ago and the pain came back after two weeks and it was an infection so if anything starts bothering you go in right away to have them look at it. Infections of the mouth affect the heart. I still feel a little swollen there too so nothing to worry about. I think they take about two months to completely heal.

Open Question: how painful is it to get wisdom teeth pulled in the chair?

Open Question: how painful is it to get wisdom teeth pulled in the chair?

Depends on how tricky the extraction is- as a rule of thumb-
1) upper teeth come out easier than bottoms
2) Teeth that have erupted into mouth come out easier than those that haven't come through, or have partially come through
3) If the roots are short and straight, they come out easier than those with curved long roots which are anchored into the jaws
4) The angle they are sat at also makes a difference

Your dentist should be able to predict by checking your xray pictures...

After looking up all the information, it seems like root canals should be pain free the day after. This worries the hell out of me. Whenever I apply just light pressure with my tongue, I feel the pain. Is there still hope it hasn't failed? Or is it common to have pain the day after sometimes?

I will make my dentist refund me if it has, or redo it for free. Its hard being a college student and paying a $800 bill out of pocket. (another $900 for the crown).

Should I be concerned? What should I do?Answer Question

bearsfan00915 by bearsfan... Member since:May 21, 2007Total points:954 (Level 2)Is it the tooth that is hurting or your jaw? Usually with a root canal, and especially in a back molar, you have to hold your mouth open very wide for extended periods of time. That is usually what causes pain and soreness the next day. The tooth no longer has any nerve in it so that should not be hurting. The advil is a good choice, but if you continue to have pain I would at least call the endo's office and ask about it. ~~Good luck to you

Open Question: How to make my teeth whiter?

Open Question: How to make my teeth whiter?

Well you should know how to brush you teeth, so do that.

If you want more tips follow these step to get white teeth in an hour.

White Teeth in One Hour
1

Brighten your teeth by purchasing specially prepared bleaching strips found at any drugstore. These strips will begin to whiten your teeth in one hour and if you continue to use it over the course of a week, the shade will get progressively lighter. Or, purchase bleaching gel and a retainer separately and use them to touch up your teeth in between dental visits. Using a tray with strong gel bleach in it will significantly whiten your teeth in an hour.

2

Brush your teeth with whitening toothpaste or baking soda. This toothpaste will remove coffee and tea spots better than regular toothpaste due to its mild abrasive ingredients. Use it every day to keep your teeth free of stains.

3

Avoid coffee and tea, which stain teeth quickly. The stains can be difficult to remove without bleaching products.

4

Gargle with hydrogen peroxide diluted with water once a day to gently bleach your teeth and kill germs. This is a natural remedy for whitening teeth. (Do not swallow this solution.)

5

Eat strawberries instead of blueberries and blackberries, which will stain your teeth. Strawberries help to clean the tooth's surface.

Nice question you got there. Not many people would ask how to make their teeth whiter.
Hope this helped
-Sophie

Also has never happened to me was hit in the face at work while unloading a truck and had to get a partial plate. I have never had these feelings of cavities though.Like I say could be phantom pains.

Open Question: How soon should I go to an endodontist?

Home >All Categories > Health >Dental >Open QuestionMs.Kitty Ms.Kitty Member since:July 31, 2008Total points:852 (Level 2)I went to the dentist last week and he gave me my dental plan. Basically, my X-rays show that I might have two abscess (one on my top front tooth and one on my bottom front tooth), BUT he told me that I need to get fillings on 3 of my teeth before going to the endodontist. I'm just wondering why I would need to get the fillings before going to the endodontist and if I should just go to the endodontist first. The root of my upper tooth is really starting to hurt.Answer Question

Matt by Matt Member since:April 15, 2010Total points:168 (Level 1)Definitely a question that you should ask both your dentist and your endodontist before doing anything. They are the people that will know what's best

Open Question: How Painful Are Braces!?

Open Question: How Painful Are Braces!?

i had braces for a while the thing is that when you get your wire changed(the line that connects the braces) your teeth are gonna be very sensitive for a couple of days like 5-7 your teeth are so sensitive that even eating a sandwich will hurt your teeth. this happens because the braces are forcing your teeth to move and they just dont wanna move which causes pain

BUT..................other than that its normal theres no pain at all in fact outta the 4 years ive had themi always forgot they were even in my mouth. so dont worry ive had them for 4 years and i actually forgot i had them WHILE i had them on but other than getting your wires changed they dont hurt in the least

Open Question: Is it okay to alternate between 2 or 3 toothpastes? Like use one toothpaste one morning, and another the next?

Yes. Toothpaste is toothpaste - they all do the same thing.

Yes, but what I meant is they all do the same thing - clean your teeth. That is what toothpaste is made for. All brands go onto your toothbrush and then into your mouth.

Open Question: whats the braces process from day 1?

i remember when i was gonna get my braces. ya get scared but the process takes about an hour to do. because the braces are "cemented" to the front of your teeth so that they dont fall off or out. ill tell ya waht its like since i just got mine off.

when ever ya get your braces tightened your teeth become very sensitive for the next couple of days like 5-7 i mean when that happened all i did was bite into a sandwich and my teeth were hurting alot

but other than that you dont feel them AT ALL. i mean mosto f the time i forgot they were even in my mouth

Open Question: Is it normal to have cracks in your teeth?

Open Question: Is it normal to have cracks in your teeth?

Your teeth is a bone structure. So, it can crack, crumble, break, etc.

However, it's protected by enamel and it's sort of uncolored (a little bit white I suppose), and it holds the teeth in place. They may not be cracks, but more so of a rough line caused by erosion.

Don't worry, everybody has them.

They say they'll have to pull out my baby tooth, then an ADULT tooth next to it. Then, they'll pull down the adult tooth above the baby tooth they took out, down, with a chain.
What is this called? Does anyone have good information about it? How often does it happen? Is it painful?
Thanks.Answer Question

Open Question: Jaw pain a month after wisdom teeth removal?

Open Question: Jaw pain a month after wisdom teeth removal?

Almost a month ago I got my wisdom teeth out. The extraction itself went without a hitch, and some of the worst pain I had was from having my mouth cranked open to do the procedure. The lower right side of my face swelled and bruised much more than the other side, but I was back to eating completely normally within a week. A week and a half later, I got a dry socket in my lower right socket. The oral surgeon packed it, etc. and I saw them a few times for that. People say that dry sockets are excruciating, but mine wasn't all that bad.

On Monday, they took x-rays, cleaned out all the medication that was in the socket, told me I was healing very well, and sent me on my way. They said it might be a little sore, but it felt great. On Thursday, all of a sudden, things changed. I noticed that my lower right jaw was hurting quite a bit and was swelling a little. The area is very tender, but I don't think it's red or warm.

I'm wondering what's going on. Suddenly, the range of motion in my jaw has decreased significantly and I can't chew on that side of my mouth again. It feels like a deep bruise.

According to the thermometer, I don't have a fever, but I feel as though I have one, and my stomach started hurting a few hours after my jaw started.

So, what gives? Do I have a virus, and my jaw is just a lingering effect of the dry socket? Or might I have a bone infection, and my pain tolerance is high?

I was on two rounds of antibiotics, and it felt 100% better, including my jaw, which had regained full range of motion. All of the pain just randomly started up again.

Open Question: Equilibrium is off, like I'm walking on a moving boat, even when sitting and turning my head. 2 months now.?

Your antibiotics are more likely to give you stomach issues long before any other issues, so I don't think it's that. In my experience, I've gotten extremely dizzy from pain medications, and everyone reacts differently to them. Especially if they are prescription medications. Look at the bottle, and it'll let you know if you're likely to experience dizziness from them. You also don't have to "overdose" on a pain medication to get dizzy from it... you are more likely to be sick to your stomach.

You wouldn't have an ear infection if you were on antibiotics. I also think you would have more symptoms if you had a brain tumor. If you go to the ENT, they can perform a test of squirting very cold water into your ear to judge what's going on with dizziness, or you could get an MRI. I know you say you have no insurance, but you won't know for sure without going to the doctor! If it's been going on for two months, better be safe than sorry.

Open Question: How does it feel to wear braces?

Open Question: How does it feel to wear braces?

It feels like I'm not wearing braces. You won't even feel it if you don't think about it.

When I first got them on, it didn't hurt till I left the orthodontist. (Take tylonel before you get them on). It hurt so much for about 2 weeks so you should buy tons of soup for those two weeks and when they change your wire because it'll hurt when you chew. When the orthodontist changes your wire, your teeth will be sore for about 2 to 3 days.

But other than that, it doesn't hurt or anything.

Hope I helped! Good luck and have fun! (:

I'm interested in using white strips to make my teeth look whiter...(obviously). Will my fake tooth remain the same colour and not get any whiter? (my other teeth seem slightly less white than the fake tooth as it stands now anyways...). Also, what long term effects do white strips have on teeth? thanks.Answer Question

Open Question: Did i ever get a retainer?

Open Question: Did i ever get a retainer?

About 5 years ago i had braces, then after they were taken off The orthodontist gave me the clear retainer. ( the invisalign -clear, removable teeth aligners). I wore them often. but after a while my teeth moved. When i went to the dentist. she said i NEVER got my retainer. That after 3 months of the Invisalign i had to get a metal retainer and this is why my teeth moved.

Is it true that after a clear aligner i had to get a metal retainer? Ao i never got my actual retainer?
