There is no cure.Mistyyy by Mistyyy Member since:February 19, 2011Total points:213 (Level 1)Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (not the STD variety, so no worries! Almost everybody has this form of herpes) Some people are more prone to frequent cold sore flareups. There are all sorts of over the counter creams you can use like herpecin lip balm.XxDarcyxX by XxDarcyx... Member since:February 22, 2009Total points:426 (Level 2)I luckily have never had them and never hope to. Cold sores are actually a herpes virus of the mouth. It can be contracted from kissing(this is how most people get them especially babies and teens), oral sex, sharing chap stick and lip gloss and drinks, ect. You need to be careful when you have them and not kiss anyone because there is a strong chance that whomever you kiss will get the virus as well. When the cold sore is gone you can kiss whoever you want and don't have to worry about giving it to anyone. However, when you do have it MAKE SURE NOT TO KISS ANYONE they could get it. Cold sores are not an "std" per-say, you don't get them the same way you get genital herpes (well you can get them that way but I am sure you haven't had oral sex). There is no cure for it but I think most stores sell some stuff to help soothe the pain but since i don't get them I don't know how to "treat" them. Best of luck :)Cold sores are generally caused by a herpes virus, usually herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1). Since the sores are due to a virus, there isn't much that can be done for them. Some antiviral drugs can slightly reduce the duration of the sore. Anesthetic ointments and such can make it hurt less.
