Open Question: Will a salt solution kill gingivitis germs if used as a mouthwash?

Currently I put about a 1cm layer of iodized table salt in the bottom of a big Listerine bottle and fill it up with distilled water. Funnily enough, this kind of whitens my teeth a little, too.
