Open Question: Is a bridge likely to be noticeable to someone you are talking with?
Bridges and crowns are not made from natural enamel, but usually a porcelain-like substance. This discolours at a different rate and to a different shade than natural tooth enamel, so if your teeth become mildly discoloured with age or exposure to tobacco smoke, red wine, coffee or tea etc then the bridge (or crown) will be a quite obvious mismatch.
To avoid this total giveaway, it is necessary to:
1. Have the bridge made to a good colour match to your natural enamel colour at a point when the enamel is very clean.
2. Maintain your teeth to a standard where the degree of discolouration is minimal. This may involve slightly more frequent scale-and-polish sessions with a dentist or dental hygienist than would be the case without installed bridgework.
