Open Question: How can I prevent the foul taste and odor after a wisdom tooth extraction?

I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed two days ago. It was a routine procedure, as they were not impacted and at a good angle for extraction. However, now I have a foul taste and odor in my mouth from the healing. The instruction sheet I was given at the dental office does mention that this may occur, and there is no need to worry unless the pain gets more severe (which mine has not). However, it does not mention any suggestions for preventing, or at least reducing, the foul taste and odor.

I've been brushing and flossing regularly, and (after the 24 hour wait period as instructed by my dental office) also using the plastic syringe to flush out any food particles, as well as swishing with warm salt water a few times a day. While the salt water seems to help a little, the bad taste and odor return within several minutes. Does anybody have suggestions for preventing or reducing this awful taste and odor??
