Open Question: Can anyone give me advice on tongue scrapers for a bad case of "white tongue"?

I'm going to get him one but there really are too many choices and I'm not sure which to go with. I don't want to waste my money so I've got to be sure it's going to do the job credibly. (I'm not expecting perfection.) Anyway, even when he brushes his tongue he's still got a pretty substantial layer of "gunk" on there that he'll sometimes scrape off with his fingernails (SICK!) so if you know of a scraper that can do THAT job then I'd be most appreciative and impressed.
