Open Question: Why do I grind my teeth?

Hello
I clench my teeth when I am stressed and worried about things. I think the stress builds up and clenching my teeth is my bodies way of trying to get rid of the stress. So you maybe grinding as you are stressed out. Other causes maybe your bite is not correct or you have missing or crooked teeth. The right thing to do is tell your dentist and they will check your jaw and bite and teeth and see if there is anything causing you to grind. You must tell them as grinding can cause damage to your teeth and jaw and can even effect your hearing and give you headaches.

Your dentist may give you a mouth guard to wear at night to protect your teeth. If stress is causing your grinding you need to find the cause of your stress and deal with it. Sort the issue out. You need to find ways to calm down and relax. I find exercise helps me de stress . Cut right back on foods and drinks that have caffeine in them such as coke, coffee and chocolate. And avoid alcohol as it makes people grind their teeth even more. Do not chew gum as this gets your jaw used to clenching and you are then more likely to grind. And drink plenty of water.

Hope this helps and you get your grinding sorted soon and take care
