Is a root canal treatment painful?

I am a 16 and a half year old boy and I am probably going to have a root canaling done on my tooth ....
Could anyone please tell me whether I will experience any sort of pain during any step of the treatment!!

Please tell me freely and the truth .... most websites have false statements so I really hope to get the correct answer here.... Thank you !!
